Want a Pool by Summer? Start This Halloween.

The pumpkins are out, the weather's cooling off, and now might be the smartest time to start planning your swimming pool for next summer.

There's something special about October in Central Texas.

The mornings finally feel like fall. Football's on the television. Somebody down the street has already spent an unreasonable amount of money on Halloween decorations. And for the first time in months, you can walk outside without feeling like you're standing in front of an open oven.

Naturally, the last thing on your mind is a swimming pool.

Funny enough, that's exactly why we should talk about one.

Because while everybody else is packing away their pool floats and figuring out what they're doing for Thanksgiving, October is one of the best times to start planning a custom swimming pool in Austin.

The Summer Pool Rush Starts Long Before Summer

Every spring, like clockwork, something happens around Austin.

We get that first stretch of 90-degree weather. The kids start asking when they can go swimming. Somebody mentions how nice it would be to have a pool in the backyard.

And just like that, the phone starts ringing.

There's nothing wrong with deciding to build a pool in April. Swimming pools can be built year-round in Central Texas. But there's a difference between deciding you want a pool when it's hot outside and already having one when it gets hot outside.

That difference usually comes down to planning.

Before anybody fires up an excavator, there's a custom pool design to work through, materials to pick out, permits to pull, and sometimes an HOA to convince that your backyard paradise won't bring down the neighborhood.

None of it is particularly exciting, but it's all part of getting the job done right.

And October gives you a little breathing room.

How Long Does It Take to Build a Pool in Austin?

One of the things that surprises homeowners is how quickly a swimming pool can actually come together.

At Austin Dreamscapes, our typical pool construction timeline is 6 to 10 weeks, from excavation to completion.

Not six months. Not a year.

A couple of months, give or take.

Now, that doesn't mean you call us on Halloween and have a finished pool by Christmas. There's still the design process, permitting, scheduling, and the occasional curveball Mother Nature likes to throw our way.

But starting now puts you in a pretty good position.

You can spend the fall figuring out exactly what you want, work through approvals, and potentially get construction underway during the cooler months.

By the time everybody else starts thinking about swimming pools again, yours could already be sitting in the backyard waiting for warmer weather.

That's a pretty good feeling.

When Should You Start Planning a Pool for Summer?

If you're wondering when you should actually pick up the phone, we've got a pretty simple way of looking at it.

Think of the holidays as your swimming pool calendar.

When You Start PlanningTarget Swimming SeasonHalloween (October)May to JuneThanksgiving (November)June to JulyChristmas (December)July to August

Of course, those are planning estimates, not promises. Every backyard is different, and things like HOA approvals, city permits, financing, and weather can move the schedule around.

For a little perspective, here's what the planning process can involve:

  • Pool design: Typically 1 to 2 weeks for an initial design, followed by any revisions.

  • Pool financing: Often 1 to 3 weeks, if financing is needed.

  • HOA approval: Sometimes 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the neighborhood.

  • City permits: Roughly 2 to 8 weeks, depending on the jurisdiction and project.

  • Engineering: When required, this can add another week or two.

Fortunately, some of these steps can happen at the same time.

The point is, the pool itself doesn't necessarily take all that long to build. It's getting everything lined up beforehand that can eat up your calendar.

And that's why Halloween is such a good time to get the conversation started.

Can You Build a Swimming Pool in Winter in Texas?

Somewhere up north, somebody is scraping ice off their windshield and wondering how anyone could possibly build a swimming pool in December.

Down here, there's a decent chance we'll be wearing shorts on Christmas.

That's Texas for you.

The truth is, we build swimming pools throughout the year. Central Texas has relatively mild winters, making fall and winter perfectly reasonable seasons for pool construction.

Sure, we get rain. Occasionally we get a freeze that reminds everybody how unprepared Texas is for actual winter. And certain parts of construction have to wait for the right weather.

But a little cold doesn't mean the entire pool industry shuts down until spring.

In fact, building a pool during the cooler months means your yard has time to recover before the season when you actually want to use it.

Not a bad trade.

A Good Custom Pool Design Deserves a Little Thought

Here's another reason we like getting started early.

Nobody should feel rushed into designing something they're going to look at for the next twenty years.

Maybe you've always pictured a simple rectangular pool with a big tanning ledge. Maybe the kids want a waterfall. Maybe you've got your heart set on a raised spa, an outdoor kitchen, and enough patio space to host the entire neighborhood.

Or maybe you've got a patch of grass and a vague idea that a swimming pool would look pretty good there.

That's where we come in.

Building a custom pool in Austin isn't just about choosing a shape and picking a plaster color. Every backyard has its own challenges, especially with the slopes, rocky soil, and elevation changes we see throughout Central Texas.

The design process is about figuring out what makes sense for your property, your family, and your budget.

And having a little extra time to think it through usually makes for a better finished product.

Choosing the Right Pool Builder in Austin Matters

One thing worth knowing about Austin Dreamscapes is that we don't operate like some of the bigger swimming pool companies.

We're a family-owned custom pool builder serving Austin, Round Rock, Leander, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, Cedar Park, and the surrounding Central Texas communities.

And we keep no more than five swimming pool projects under construction at a time.

That's intentional.

We like knowing what's happening on our job sites. We like being there. And we like building pools the way we'd want somebody to build one for our own family.

The downside, if you want to call it that, is that we only have so many openings on the calendar.

Which brings us right back to October.

Getting started now doesn't mean you have to rush into construction tomorrow. It just gives you a chance to get the ball rolling before everybody else has the same idea.

So Enjoy Halloween. Just Don't Forget About June.

Go carve your pumpkins. Watch some football. Enjoy those few glorious weeks when the weather in Austin actually behaves itself.

But somewhere between the Halloween candy and Thanksgiving turkey, take a look out at your backyard.

Imagine a swimming pool out there.

Not just a drawing on a piece of paper or a construction project you've been meaning to get around to.

An actual pool. Finished. Full of water. Ready for the first hot weekend of the year.

Because summer has a funny way of sneaking up on us in Texas.

And when it does, there's a pretty big difference between wishing you had a swimming pool and already having one.

If you want a swimming pool ready for summer in Austin, Halloween is a mighty fine time to get started.
